The Art of Acoustic Singing
The Vocal Academy
The objective of The Vocal Academy (VA) is not only to discover and develop talent in Finland, but also to promote acoustic singing as an integral part of our culture and heritage. VA goes about this task chiefly by organising masterclasses and concerts throughout the year.
During the courses, leading pedagogues tutor and coach singers on their individual vocal and other expression skills. The summer course in June is open to the general public with an opening concert, daily lunch and dinner recitals and full access passes to masterclass sessions and the final concert at end of the course week.
During the first four years, VA has organised twelve masterclasses, 16 concerts and a number of related lectures and workshops. In the Fall of 2015 - the 150th anniversary of Jean Sibelius - VA’s unprecedented three-concert series, in three consecutive nights, including all of Sibelius’s 109 songs became a true high light of the culture year.
”Sibelius 109 project is a fantastic cultural achievement" wrote Vesa Sirén, the culture editor of Helsingin Sanomat.
The Vocal Academy, now on it's fifth year, has become a well recognized operator in the Finnish classical singing arena, attracting world-class tutors, like professors Robert Holl, Irina Gavrilovici, and bass baritone Juha Uusitalo who was chosen for the new Artistic Director on 8th June 2017.
